I thought it would be beneficial to have a forum where people who will be volunteering for the upcoming Winter Olympics can discuss various aspects of the volunteer experience – as a first-time volunteer I don’t know exactly what to expect. Does anyone know of such a place online?

Are you healthy? If you get sick in Vancouver the Medical system is now under a quota system that restricts how many patients a doctor can treat per day and at one ailment per patient. By 2pm the days work is usually over. And you have to be there early just to sit around and wait. Patients must be patient.

Trying to determine the largest organizations. For example, the American Red Cross boasts they have 550,000 volunteers. Tryi to get a ranking of sorts by volunteer size, not by the amount of money they have received.

1. There appears to be no list, set out in the way that you would like. Therefore you would have to draw up your own list, relying on the claim of each particular charity. However, the alleged numbers may not be informative for comparison purposes, anyway, because people have different levels of commitment; and so the number of volunteer hours (if the data were available) would be a more useful comparator.

The organization is an oversea orphanage center in Asia, and im volunteer my time alone in the state trying to raise money to help orphans. But i need people to help me and have fun together doing fundraising to help the kids. where do i find selfless people to get involved, as i am a disable person who have many time to spare in making a different and barely go out getting to know anyone.

First, you need to plan on how you will involve volunteers: you need to have designated tasks, just as you would if they were paid staff. You need to be more specific than asking for fundraising volunteers — what is it exactly these volunteers will *do*? How will they be trained and supported by your organization? How will you screen them to ensure that they have no criminal backgrounds? How will you supervise them to ensure they do what they are supposed to do? You aren’t ready to involve volunteers until you can answer all of those questions.

Only then are you ready to recruit local people, through churches, temples and mosques, through clubs, through associations, etc. to be volunteers.

I live out of town, so I am unable to volunteer at an organisation. I miss doing that. I have no money to give, but I have time. What sort of thing can I do online for charities to help them out?

Its in Los Angeles. I want to volunteer for the Food Truck Communtity Distribution. I dont think you have to sign up but im not sure. Can someone give me some more info about that place?

I’d like to help spread the word of God. I know ppl who went through jail/prison and its a hard process to go through… so want to help those ppl change their lives around to God. How would I get involved in this? Thanks!

Contact churches in the area as they may have some kind of outreach program for prisons. I know our synod sponsors a regular program at the state prison and they ask groups from churches around the state to present worship opportunities. I believe it’s called St. Dysmas or St. Dismas.

Its a study that looks at how people evaluate social science research and make desisions. It takes 30-40 minutes.
