Epilepsy agency needs tag line to help recruit volunteers?

Posted on February 24th, 2010 by admin in volunteers | 4 Comments »

We are a non-profit agency dedicated to improving the lives of people living with epilepsy. We do this through such things as support groups, counselling and education programs. I need a catchy tag line to use in a poster I’m designing to recruit volunteers for our agency. Your ideas are much appreciated. Thanks.

Come join our community’s shakers and movers.

Why is it that some parents take care of their children better than others?

Posted on February 24th, 2010 by admin in center of volunteers | 16 Comments »

Sometimes, it seems like some parents do the things that are convenience for them. Like, some kids their parents provide them with a ride where ever they need to go i.e mall, sports practice, friend’s house, volunteer center, bookstore, movies–but then, some others tell the kid to wait until they can drive or something like that, not being very encouraging or supporting at all and not understanding that kids have needs too. In a way it is like punishing the child when the child hasn’t done anything wrong, and the child may be the kindest and most responsible child in the world. It’s like they are not important enough, because I believe where there is a will there is a way.

Everybody is parented, raised and raises their kids a different way. Every person is different. What one person sees as stupid or crazy, another person may see as fun or right. When you become a parent, you take on the resposibility to not only care for yourself, but for another person. Sometimes stress, schedules, work, house chores, own personal time etc take away time from allowing a parent to do everything their childs wants to. It doesn’t make you a bad parent, nor does doing everything your child asks makes you a good one. It’s important though to support and encourage your child to strive to do their best aways. When you grow up and become a parent yourself, you’ll understand better.

Annual Spring Encampment 1938

The 11th Cavalry Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services in 1938 consisted of grooming and feeding horses. After taking care of their steeds, it was off to training. Soldiers shown here are performing their military duties at Camp Ord in 1938.

The US Army had won the Spanish-American war in large measure due to the volunteers who answered the call to “Remember the Maine”. The Regular Army was expanded and on 2 February, 1901, Congress added five cavalry regiments. The 11th Cavalry was formed and designated to live in history as “The Blackhorse”.

This film clip is from the Herman Croninger collection at the Military History Institute, part of the Army Heritage and Education Center, located in Carlisle, PA.

This film was transferred to vhs tape, and then reformatted to a digital copy. While the original film has not survived, the images take us back to a time when Army transportation required both the care, and feeding of horses.

Where can you find a good volunteer position online ?

Posted on February 22nd, 2010 by admin in online volunteering | 1 Comment »

Something I can do on my days off from work. Maybe I can do some stuff online, or in mail, or write letters, mail stuff off, put coffee beans into bags, pill packing, something I can do at home volunteer work ?

Well, you are in luck. Disney is running a promotion where you can sign up, by entering your name, email, and region and it will provide you with a list of organizations that need volunteers. For each day that you volunteer you get one free ticket to a Disney theme park. If you dont use them, I suppose you can sell them or give them away, Im not sure what the policy is.

You can also use Volunteer Match, which finds organizations in need of helping hands and pairs them with interested parties.

Ive attached links to both below.

How to deal w/rude, sarcastic, insensitive people at an animal sanctuary I volunteer at? Volunteers don’t stay

Posted on February 22nd, 2010 by admin in volunteers | 2 Comments »

They cuss at and about the animals. They are angry or annoyed most of the time. The constant negativity makes me leaving upset, not uplifted. How can I bring their negative attitudes to their attention so as to alter their behavior for the sake of all involved? I’ve been thinking of volunteering elsewhere. Volunteers don’t stay, and I think it’s because of the language and the way they talk. I am used to being blunt and to the point. Advice anyone?

I would attempt to talk to them as the other poster suggested. If they don’t stop, you have two choices: 1) Go above them to someone in authority, give specific examples and let them know that volunteers leave because of these people 2) Say nothing and leave yourself
