Where are some good online places where you can volunteer and mentor kids (preferably online)?
I think that I would make a good mentor and/or tutor but I wouldn’t mind doing something like that online, like talking to kids or teenagers and giving them advice or tutoring them on something, I have such a busy weird schedule that I can’t really go anywhere to do such. Any suggestions?
its great that you are helping others. It really depends on your location and time you have available.
Here are a few links that should help:

Where can I volunteer to write online?
I’m trying to find a site which lets me write some thoughtful essays and articles. I’m particularly interested in writing about current affairs/politics. I’ve already seen Youthink!, but they don’t reply to my e-mails ![]()
What are you intending to have happen with the writing? Just to get it out there? Or writing online with an eye towards being published?
If you just want to have it available for anyone interested, I’d suggest putting up your own page. Yahoo360 has been fun for me to blog and write.
Otherwise, I’m a bit leery of putting anything online if I’m thinking of publishing (book) later. Only because online is pretty much community property. I’m sorry I don’t have a specific couple of sites. Good luck though!

volunteer work online?-10 pts?
Are there any websites that you can do volunteer work or clubs that would count 4 getting into college?
Well, as far as college goes, it depends when you start volunteering and how many hours.
If you want the volunteering to stand out on your application(or even have the admissions officers LOOK at it). You should start volunteering no later than your Freshman year because if you start later it will seem like the only reason you are volunteering is to not help out the community but have a good looking application. Colleges don’t like that, they want you to be involved for at LEAST 3 years. Also, the number of hours counts. Colleges won’t care if you do under 100-150 hours of volunteering a year, because it shows them that you are not that committed to the issue or charity. So try to do at least over 150 hours of service a year.
To find out about clubs, you will have to talk to your high school counselor.
To find out about volunteer opportunities out there you can visit this website, its really easy and you can search specifically for ONLINE volunteering.

Good luck.
I have a few computer questions that I need to fill out for an online volunteer position…please help?
OK-the operating system is Microsoft Windows XP-right?
It’s the home edition.
Then when I
look in the control panel it says this-
Version 2002 Service Pack 3
*********
the rest of it is
Intel (R)Pentium( Dual CPU
E2160@6H 1.79 GHZ
1.79 GHZ o.996Bof
Is this the answer to the question what is your computer hardware specifications and computer software specifications?
Software is any program or application which runs on the computer hardware.
Hardware is anything that you can touch – the case, keys, disks, screen, Central Processing Unit (CPU), the Random Access Memory (RAM) modules, chips, fans, etc, etc.
Your hardware would be the make and model/type of your computer
eg. Acer Aspire 1234 (for instance)
with an Intel Pentium (Dual Core E2160@6H) CPU running at a speed (frequency) of 1.79 GHz
(If they don’t want too much detail ‘Acer Aspire 1234′ would be sufficient.)
Your software would be
Windows XP (Home), SP3 (Service Pack 3) – the service packs are additional updates to the original Windows program.
You will also have other software of course like an Antivirus program, maybe MS Office, a firewall, and loads of others, but the main one is the Operating System (O.S.) – in your case, Windows.
Microsoft issues various Windows updates, usually on the second Tuesday of every month (Patch Tuesday) but they mount up after a while, so occasionally they take all the previous updates and cram ‘em together into one huge update so that customers can update their Windows all in one go rather than than in bits and pieces. These big lumps of updates are Service Packs.
Volunteering for Polling Booths and Politics?
I was wondering how to get involved with volunteering for working at polling booths for this upcoming election, and just getting involved in politics as a volunteer for anything relating to politics. I have been searching online, but I cannot seem to find anything that is remotely helpful Thank you! Btw, I’m in high school.
Call your local city or county offices — they can direct you to the correct number to call. Call soon to reserve a place and receive proper training.
How to Use Skype: A Video Tutorial
[See More] http://www.mys.ca/volunter/how-to
Although Skype states their VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) application is relatively “easy to download, install and use”, a visual tutorial may help those with installing and using this program for the first time. As apart of the best practises publication about Online Volunteerism being developed by Randy Tyler, MYS has facilitated the creation of many how-to videos.
In this context, Macdonald Youth Services (MYS) is pleased to share a video tutorial that provides an overview of how to download, install, configure and use Skype 2.5 for Windows. MYS extends their thanks to online volunteer Yu Cheng, who now lives in China, for creating the approximate nine minute video.
Using a combination of Skype’s voice, chat and file transfer features, Macdonald Youth Services demonstrated that such an application can be an effective and efficient tool to help any non-profit advance projects undertaken by their far-flung volunteers.
And in addition to file transfer and one-to-one voice and text-based conversations, Skype also has additional capabilities, such as instant message group chats with up to 100 people, free voice conference calls with up to four people and video calls. Skype is also used as the preferred VoIP application by notable podcasters, where an interview format is used. Assuming you are not using a more advanced set-up (such as a firewire-based interface and/or mixer with XLR mics and headphones) Skype, or any VoIP application works best with a headset, preferably a USB-based headset such as the Plantronics DSP line.
If you are experiencing poor voice communication when using Skype, try setting up port forwarding on your router/ firewall to enable a direct connection. Through static port forwarding, a static port is assigned for Skype to use (in this configuration, to prevent Skype from becoming a server, do not leave your application running). For more information about routers, ports, security and setting up port forwarding for your specific router for Skype, please see the following resources:
