Indiana Volunteer Fire Fighter Age Limit?

Posted on December 31st, 2011 by admin in volunteer center of | 1 Comment »

Im wondering how old you have to be to be a Volunteer Fire Fighter in the state of Indiana. My grandpa is the Fire Captain of Fowler Center-Township Volunteer Fire Department, which is the one I’m planning on joining. He told me he thought it was 16 with a license. I was wondering if anyone could verify that. Im 15 also.

Your grandpa is the fire captain and doesn’t know? YIKES!

Call the state agency that overseas volunteer firefighters and ask.

i’m registered with the volunteer centre and i’ve got a job offer not sure if i should accept it?

Posted on December 8th, 2011 by admin in volunteer center of | 2 Comments »

the job entails packing toys into boxes and putting them onto a van, it sounds like an easy job, that’s all the job is, it’s volunteering and i think i should take it because i need a new place to work, the chance to mix with new people a new refernece because iv’e been out of work for several years and i don’t have many references. the only thing is, all this job will do is, get me used to working, get me out of the house and get me feeling confident. the other reason why i think i should take it is, because the only place where there is friction and arguement’s is at home. the more i am out of the house, the more i am at peace with myself, the happier i am. i know it’s only volunteering but it’s still work and i have to get back into work before i get a paid job.

should i take it

I would accept the job offer based upon the following (1) have not worked in several years, (2) will gain valuable skills to put on your resume and a solid recent work experience, if possible stay at least six months to a year, (3) there is always the possibility they might offer you a paid job if you are dependable, ambitious and a quick learner and you can transfer to another department or be promoted. (4) if possible try while working to take courses at a vocational school i.e. auto mechanic, electronics, technology etc or enroll at a community college i.e. para legal, medical billing etc. (5)
You can continue to apply for permanent paid jobs while volunteering (6) interaction with new people detaching from the situation at home where there is chaos will help your mental state of mind.

It is a solid move towards gaining work experience and eventually realizing your career goals.

P.S. I started as a volunteer and was hired at a toy company worked for 3 years. Then left after taking some business courses at the community college and landed a job in banking. I started their at a junior administrative and then became a Vice President, 30 years.

Posted on October 25th, 2011 by admin in volunteer center of | 1 Comment »

btw,i am 70 yrs old and on ssi and a fixed budget.

talk with the center director and the area agency or the aging in your area and see what they can suggest. If the agency for aging has a senior employment program that may be the way to go. If you are in a rural area your electric membership co may give the center a small grant but the center director will need to be the one to apply on that

What kind of volunteering can be done at an Air Force Base?

Posted on September 29th, 2011 by admin in volunteer center of | 1 Comment »

Can anyone tell me what kind of volunteer work be done at an Air Force base? I went to the Airman and Family readiness center to ask but the lady said just anything.. but then i’m like well I still dont know like what is it that I can help so I’m stuck now, I know I can do like some front desk work and stuff but I know there are a lot more. I also want to do some Red Cross volunteer so any suggestions?
Thanks.

Almost ever base has a museum, and they are always looking for volunteers to conduct tours, or scan paperwork. Try there if it sounds interesting. Every base also has a red cross office, and you could volunteer there and help them with answering the phones and doing paperwork.

A volunteer in medical?

Posted on August 25th, 2011 by admin in volunteer center of | 2 Comments »

OK I applied for financial aid but didn’t except me (FAFSA); I was going to Glendale community college (GCC) here in Arizona. SO I will not be abe to go this year. But instead of getting a job (even if very important) I thought I should start volunteering that involves medical to gain experience. I want to major in Medical Diagnostic sonographer
(ultrasound technician) so I thing its a good idea to have some experience in medical but I know there aren’t volunteering in sonophy unless you’re certified. You know what I’m talken about rite? Gaining experience is the best thing for me to get a better grib on a medical career but don’t know where to go in phoenix? Any good volunteer in medical that will look great on a resume. Please no suggestion or making a short pointless suggestion or smart comments. I would like to get alots of comments please.
P.S. I have no experience in medical so I want to go to a volunteer center that will except people like me. I neem a volunteer center that involves medical.

I am a in-state student. I am going to be a junior and I have 3.1 gpa. I took all regular classes. i have done about 200 hours of volunteer at community center. I also speak another language fluently ( english is my second language). I wasn’t planning to take SAT. Can I still get into U of A.
(I think I will have 3.2 or 3.3 gpa at the end of my junior year)

if you are a Junior in high school, you will have to take either the SAT or the ACT.

Im 12. Can I volunteer at a daycare center that I’ve never been to?

Posted on April 9th, 2011 by admin in volunteer center of | 2 Comments »

I am turning 13 soon and I want to start working with children. I don’t want a career in day care or something like that but I’d like to work with small children before i reach university or college.

I’ve never been to the daycare either. Will that effect the chance of them letting me work there?

You cannot volunteer anywhere you have never been. And the daycare is probably a for-profit business, meaning the only people there are paid employees. In addition, nonprofit or for-profit, no place that takes care of children allows people under 18 to help, because all volunteers have to undergo a criminal background check, have to have certain training and certification, etc., that someone your age cannot have.

Most volunteering with babies and toddlers is reserved for people 18 and over. There are volunteering opportunities for older children, but most of these require you to be at least 14, even 18.

Here is advice on finding volunteering opportunities, whatever your interest:

Do you know of any place to volunteer in Center City Philadelphia?

Posted on April 4th, 2011 by admin in volunteer center of | 2 Comments »

Willing to do (mostly) anything. I’m looking for something on weekends or weekday evenings after regular business hours.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the American Red Cross.
They have several section / services in which you might find interest.
Service to Military Families…Red Cross workers in hundreds of chapters and on military installations brief departing service members and their families regarding available support services and explain how the Red Cross may assist them during the deployment.
Safety Services, my favorite. I was a volunteer First Aid Instructor for 18 years.
This service also teaches CPR, Swimming, and Life Guard Certifications.
Disaster Action Team, You can be called upon to go to places around the country to aid in disaster relief such as New Orleans and Katrina, or California fires.
Then there is Blood Services, going and taking history or work the canteen. You will not be called upon to draw blood

There have been some reports in the media, always hungry for controversial news about miss-deeds at the Red Cross. I can say, having been an employee for the Red Cross and then a non paid volunteer, it is still one of the best charitable organizations out there. Not encumbered by bureaucracies, they were the first on the scene at Katrina. The Red Cross spends $0.90 of every dollar received in donations and sends it back into the community, through disaster relief, service to military families, to educational information to schools. They operate on $0.10 of every dollar. I have personally seen them take and re-cycle used desk and office equipment donated by the major corporations in Atlanta. They will re-paint desk and file cabinets to use. They will recycle usable posters by using the back side.
They work with whatever hours you have to give and find you a meaningful task.

Let me know what you wind up doing.

Is there a place I can volunteer to help suicidal people?

Posted on January 26th, 2011 by admin in volunteer center of | 3 Comments »

I live near Denver, CO. Recently at my high school a girl committed suicide and I was wondering if there is a center I can volunteer at to help suicidal people. I wouldn’t want what happened at my school to happen to anyone else. Or maybe just a program I can help with, idk, the event really upset a lot of people including me.

What a tragic loss…I’m so sorry. It’s really good of you to want to volunteer to help suicidal people, because it definitely *does* make a difference. While there certainly are opportunities to help, some organizations may require that suicide hotline volunteers be at least age 18. But that may not always be the case, so don’t let that deter you from checking out the links below:

One other thought…
In the news recently there was a story about teens somewhere in the Midwest who started groups at their various high schools to raise awareness of Depression, after some classmates of theirs committed suicide. The groups have had much success and been highly acclaimed both in their communities and in the media. I was able to find their Facebook page and their website, in case you want to look into it and maybe even do something like that at your school. Wishing you all the best.
