For instance the one I volunteer at sometimes has younger volunteers help with laundry, fundraising, office tasks, and stuff like that. They still get to come in and help out, they still get to pet the dogs and cats, they just aren't given the responsibility (and risk of injury) that comes with providing one-on-one care to an animal.
