FACTS AND FIGURES ABOUT PAMS MEDICAL MISSIONS

•In 2008 PAMS members have conducted 14 medical missions to Peru, including one permanent mission that focuses on cardiothoracic surgery in Lima. Thousands of patients have benefited from these missions.
•$2,490,965 was donated in direct support of the PAMS missions in 2008. The cost of all missions in 2008 exceeded 20 million dollars.
•The missions are conducted in the very needy areas of Peru extending from north to south, from east to west, including the coastal, mountain and jungle regions.
•The needs of the people are many and their living conditions are challenging. In Cangallo, a town that is deep in the area of Ayacucho, only 33% of the people have clean drinking water, 6% have sewer facilities, 20% have electricity and the illiteracy rate among women is 43%. Thus, the high incidence of gastrointestinal and respiratory infections and high infant mortality rate. Cangallo however is not alone as there are many towns like this throughout Peru.
•Volunteers are Peruvian, American and other International physicians, nurses, dentists and paramedical personnel who go to Peru at their own expense motivated by the passion to help those in desperate need of medical care. They work collaboratively with local Peruvian counterparts, sometimes including local medical schools. The care provided is free.
•The missions have included internists and primary care physicians, cardiologists, gastroenterologists, hematology/oncologists, pediatricians, general and laparoscopic surgeons, ophthalmologists, orthopedic surgeons, anesthesiologists, plastic surgeons, gynecologists, gynecology oncologists, and dentists.
•The medical missions not only include education, prevention and direct patient care but also establishes modern pediatric, neonatal, gastrointestinal, cardiologic and surgical units with donated equipment that is left in Peru for further use by the local medical community.
•The medical care provided by PAMS missions to the people of Peru is of the highest quality including surgical procedures that cant be conducted safely in Peru.
•Volunteers and PAMS Auxiliary conduct visits to local pediatric and maternity units as well as orphanages. They facilitate medical and dental care for these children by mission members and donate clothes, shoes, computers and other necessities. More than anything however, they bring their love and affection to these special children.
•PAMS also is present at times of catastrophe such as earthquakes that have devastated certain regions of the country. With the cooperation of local, private and public entities PAMS is committed to developing a Community Center in Chincha and another in Pisco to provide medical care ranging from prevention screening and early detection to appropriate care of disease in children and adults.
•PAMS missions confront a number of bureaucratic impediments that limit the ability to distribute equipment, medicines and supplies necessary for missions. PAMS is working with local authorities and private industry to resolve this problem.
•Everybody is capable of helping, whether by volunteering for a mission, providing economic assistance, obtaining and donating equipment and medicines, or by supporting the work of the Auxiliary. The needs are many, from elemental to complex, and all of us can contribute a grain of salt to this vast sea of need.
•Please join and support the Medical Missions to Peru!

PAMS Viene trabajando hace 30 anhos desde EEUU por el Peru, Nacio en 1973, en 1994 empezaron las Misiones Medicas a las zonas pobres del Peru.
CHAN:
As we’ve been reporting, to date, millions of people have been renouncing the Chinese communist regime. This past weekend, celebrations were held to mark a milestone of 37 million resignations. And apparently, in Flushing, New York, organized crowds have been repeatedly harassing the Quit the CCP Center since this weekend.

Estimates of as many as a few hundred Chinese gathered on the opposite side of Center to threaten and intimidate the supporters of those who are renouncing the communist party. Now, here’s our report from Flushing, New York.

STORY:
On May 20, volunteers helping people renounce their membership to the Chinese Communist Party set up their booth in Queens, New York just as they have for the past four years. About ten minutes after setting up their booth, Chinese people started to gather. A few from the crows began cursing at the volunteers and then went on to destroy service center banners. They even physically attacked one a worker, cutting him on the ear.

Police had to intervene and separate the two groups with barriers. They arrested one of the violent aggressors.
Thanks to police efforts the situation was kept under control. Later people in the Chinese crowd threw water bottles at service center supporters. Police then arrested another protester.

Behind the crowd a Falun Gong practitioner with her baby who said she wanted to get into the library was also pushed by the crowd of Chinese. These acts shocked a passerby.

“Quote”

In the afternoon Congressman John Liu came to try to calm down the situation. He warned that intolerance and violence aren’t acceptable in the United States.

“Quote”

The situation remained tense until the evening.

(China focus covers this topic too ! http://english.ntdtv.com/?c=258&a=3261)
