How can I convince my school to let me volunteer at a performing arts center?

I am a sophomore in I.B. and I have to volunteer for 75 hours. My brother when he went through I.B. he volunteered at a performing arts center and said it was really fun. I really want to volunteer there, but I’m not sure if I can. My school says that i need to be able to "Identify a social problem" but I don’t know what could be a social problem there.
Thanks,
Phillip

Well, the "social problem" you could be addressing is the fact that people who live in lower income areas generally have very poor access to the arts.
Being exposed to the Arts at any early age is known to have dramatic positive effects on people’s lives.

Rent the movie "Take the Lead" and watch it. It’s based on a true story about a man who taught ballroom dancing and decided to bring that knowledge to some high school kids in inner city New York. It’s a wonderful story and should be very inspiring, to both you and your school!

I think it’s terrific you want to volunteer, best wishes to you!
