Volunteers – Jefferson Airplane
“Volunteers” is the last track on Jefferson Airplane’s 1969 album, Volunteers.
Enjoy!
Lyrics:
Look whats happening out in the streets
Got a revolution
Got to revolution
Hey I’m dancing down the streets
Got a revolution
Got to revolution
Ain’t it amazing all the people I meet
Got a revolution
Got to revolution
One generation got old
One generation got soul
This generation got no destination to hold
Pick up the cry
Hey now it’s time for you and me
Got a revolution
Got to revolution
Come on now we’re marching to the sea
Got a revolution
Got to revolution
Who will take it from you
We will and who are we
We are volunteers of America

The group’s unusual …
The group’s unusual name was suggested by Kaukonen(lead guitar), who had once jokingly been dubbed “Blind Thomas Jefferson Airplane” by a friend in reference to the blues singer Blind Lemon Jefferson

The Revolutionary …
The Revolutionary ideals of this song are even more relevant today than back in the 1960’s. The government of the post modern era, both Democratic and Republican led, at a basic level dont represent the American people. Today the American People languish under the yoke of the neo-aristocratic political ruling class. It time for the American People stand together and demand to be both represented and justly governed.

Grace Slick was one …
Grace Slick was one of the prettiest women of rock and roll! Great, deep, clear voice. The years have not been kind to her, though. Huge struggles with alcoholism (of all things).

I picked up the LP at Billy Blakes in Riverhead LI, and was blown away. That was very many years ago. A few months later I moved to San Francisco. Music is very important to me and I mark time with sound. “Volunteers” shoved me out of my town and into the real world.
